Ruums Terms & Privacy
Terms of Service
Ruums is a place to find people who want to do the same thing as you and hang out with them in a ruum. These Terms are the rules for using Ruums. They are a real agreement between you and Muusie, Inc. (“Muusie,” “we”), so please read them. By creating an account or using Ruums, you agree to them.
1. Who can use Ruums
You must be at least 16 years old to use Ruums. If the law where you live sets a higher age, you must meet that age. You must give us your real birthday when you sign up. If we learn that someone is under 16, we will close their account and delete their data.
Ruums is currently available only in the United States.
2. Your account
- One person, one account. Use your real birthday, don’t pretend to be someone else, and pick a username that doesn’t impersonate or insult anyone.
- Keep it safe. Keep your Apple, Google or email sign-in secure, and tell us if you think someone else is using your account.
- Banned means banned. If we permanently remove your account, don’t create a new one.
3. What Ruums is
Ruums helps you find people who want to do the same thing as you, then hang out with them in ruums using your avatar, your voice and, if you want, your camera. Ruums is in beta, so features may change and some things may not work perfectly.
4. Your content
Your content is anything you create or share on Ruums, such as your avatar, username, messages, voice, snapshots and clips. You own your content.
To run Ruums, you give us permission to store, display, process and share your content inside Ruums, in the ways you choose (for example, posting a snapshot to your story). This permission ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies other people have already saved or shared, and backups we keep for a short time.
If you send us feedback or ideas, we may use them freely to improve Ruums.
Ruums itself, including its design, avatars, mushroom world and logos, belongs to Muusie. Don’t copy, sell or reverse engineer it, or use our brand without permission.
5. Community rules
Ruums only works if everyone feels safe. Don’t do, or help anyone do, any of these:
- Bully, harass, threaten or spread hate
- Share sexual content, or anything that sexualizes minors
- Encourage self-harm, violence or dangerous challenges
- Record or share other people, or their personal info, without permission
- Spam, scam or advertise
- Impersonate others or use content you don’t have the rights to
- Use bots, scrapers or hacks on Ruums
You can report or block anyone at any time. Our team reviews reports, and we may also use automated tools to help find harmful content.
6. AI features
Some features, like voice lenses, matching and creative tools, use AI. AI can make mistakes or produce something unexpected, so don’t rely on it for anything important. Don’t use AI features to create content that breaks these rules. What you type or say into an AI feature may be processed by our AI service providers to create the result (see the Privacy Policy).
7. When we may limit or remove your account
If you break these Terms or the law, we may remove your content, limit features, or suspend or delete your account. We’ll tell you why, unless we’re not allowed to or it would put someone at risk. If you think we got it wrong, contact us and we’ll take another look. You can delete your account at any time in the app’s settings.
8. The legal bits
- No guarantees. Ruums is provided “as is.” We work hard to keep it running and safe, but we can’t promise it will always work perfectly or without interruption.
- Other users. We’re not responsible for what other people say or do on Ruums, but we do act on reports.
- Limits on liability. To the extent the law allows, Muusie is not liable for indirect or unexpected losses from using Ruums. Nothing in these Terms limits rights you have under the law where you live that can’t be waived.
- Problems? If something goes wrong, please contact us first. Most issues can be fixed quickly.
- Changes. If we make important changes to these Terms, we’ll tell you in the app before they take effect.
Privacy Policy
This policy explains what data Ruums collects, why, and what you can do about it. The short version: we collect what we need to run Ruums and fix it, we don’t sell your data, and we don’t show ads.
1. What we collect
Things you give us
- Account info: your sign-in (Apple, Google or email), username and birthday. We use your birthday to check you’re 16 or older.
- Your avatar and settings: your character, style choices and voice lens.
- What you share: messages in the lobby and in ruums, snapshots, clips, and the activities you pick.
- Voice and camera: when you’re in a ruum, your voice (and your camera, if you turn it on) is streamed live to the people in that ruum. Snapshots and clips you choose to save or share are stored.
- Reports: if you report or block someone, we keep that report.
- Messages to us: emails and feedback you send us.
Things collected when you use the app
- Usage and app health: what screens you visit and features you use (for example, joining a ruum or adding a ruumie), crashes and errors. We collect this with PostHog, an analytics tool, only to understand how Ruums is used and to fix bugs.
- Device info: your device model, operating system, app version, language and approximate location based on your IP address (country or city level).
Purchases. Ruums is free to use. You can buy optional extras, like items that make your avatar more unique. Purchases go through the App Store or Google Play, and their payment and refund rules apply. We’ll always show you the price before you buy. Items are for use in Ruums only and can’t be exchanged for money.
2. How we use it
- To run Ruums: create your account, match you with people, connect you in ruums and show your content
- To keep Ruums safe: review reports, enforce our rules and prevent abuse
- To fix bugs and improve Ruums
- To send you important messages, like beta invites or changes to these policies. You can opt out of non-essential emails at any time.
We don’t use your data for advertising, and we don’t sell or rent it to anyone.
3. Who we share it with
- Other users: your username, avatar, ruumies and anything you share are visible to people you interact with on Ruums.
- Service providers who help us run Ruums and may only use your data to do that work: PostHog (analytics), Google Firebase (app hosting and storage) and the services we use for sign-in, live voice and video, AI features and email.
- Apple and Google, when you sign in with them.
- The law: if we’re legally required to, or to protect someone’s safety.
- A new owner: if Muusie is ever acquired or merged, your data would move with Ruums, and this policy would still apply to it.
4. How long we keep it
We keep your data while your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete or anonymize your data as soon as we reasonably can, except:
- Content other people already saved or shared
- Reports and safety records, which we may keep longer to prevent abuse
- Data we must keep by law
We keep analytics data only as long as we need it to understand and improve Ruums.
5. Your rights and choices
You can:
- See the data we have about you
- Correct it if it’s wrong
- Delete your account and data, in the app’s settings or by emailing us
- Opt out of non-essential emails with the unsubscribe link
- Turn off camera, microphone and notification permissions in your phone’s settings
Depending on your state, such as California, you may have extra privacy rights under state law. Email us to use any of these rights. We won’t treat you differently for using them.
6. Teens
Ruums is for people 16 and older. We don’t knowingly collect data from anyone under 16. If you think someone under 16 is using Ruums, tell us and we’ll delete their account.
7. Keeping data safe
We use reasonable security measures, like encryption in transit and limited staff access, to protect your data. No system is perfectly secure, so please keep your sign-in safe too.
8. Changes
If we make important changes to this policy, we’ll tell you in the app before they take effect.
